Trey said they were his new favorite soon after his daughter took him to see them. And Phish practiced a king Gizz cover for nye run last year but didn’t play it because Eggy had just debuted the same song a week earlier
I definitely get it but they do jam and they are a pulling a crowd that overlaps with the others in the list. Jamband sucks as a band description…you could be playing any kind of music that involves improv and you get that label
Honestly to me. I use Jam Band to describe a band 1. obviously that jams a lot on stage and 2. is more prolific for their live sets than their studio records. Like Phish and Dead really are Jam Bands because live is always what comes to mind, whereas Gizz are pretty firmly studio titans
Yeah this is a legit point. I will say the King Gizz goes outside what they’ve laid down in the studio in the live setting. At the same time, nobody else on this list is as comfortable in the studio as King Gizz
Oh yeah definitely, and this is coming from someone who is only really getting into jam bands recently so take this with a grain of salt, but Gizz’s jams are usually more focused about riffing on a part of the song or mashing it up with another one compared to just running wild with it.
You’re absolutely right. Variations more than pure improv. But when you compare them to a band like phish…there are few bands in history and that routinely pull off so many different genres in the course of one album or show. So maybe not a JB by strict improv standards but in there for versatility
