I have no issue with The Mayor's Office having a full & well paid staff.

I do think Council should be paid much more: $75-$125k. And have a lot more administrative staff. Regardless of the # of CM's.

It's just not a full time job. These aren't career politicians. I don't think that's a problem.

Maybe with the upcoming reduced size it's worth considering making it full time.

its not a full time job because there are so many of them. Reduce the council to 10, let's say; and it suddenly becomes a full time job with the amount of constituent services they would need to handle.

Council should be a full time job. But if it is, there should be some way to stop lobbyists like James Weaver from writing & rewriting bills & operating council members like ventriloquist dummies to pass them.

Lobbying is protected by the First Amendment, and the term limits give lobbyists more influence than they would have otherwise.

I agree with you, though, about lobbyists writing bills, but that is hard to stop, except in the next election.

Lots of CMs don’t know how to write bills when elected
A report documenting James Weaver’s influence on metro govt by listing all the legislation he helped write/pass over the years would be interesting.

I think councilmembers are underpaid in most locations. It's a problem, in my opinion. In my town, the seats are often held by people who can afford to hold them, leading to completely unequal representation.

I'm not rich, and I have a disabled husband, so we're a one-income household. I work a full-time day job to support my political "night job". I'm fortunate that I have a day job with flexibility. I've been advocating pay increases for council for years, and people view it as self-serving.
