The sitting President is raking in bribes left and right, but thankfully Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper are staying laser-focused on the real issue: that the former President, now battling cancer, is—brace yourself—old.

During my commute my local NPR runs the Daily at 6pm and last night this was also the topic. So as often happens with the Daily I had to turn the channel because idgaf what soft serve conservative talking points they want to push NPR listeners.
Waiting for the "Not taking bribes, just old and cognitively impaired" take on the current potus. "He didn't know what he was doing. He was easily confused."
Somehow the "old & easily confused" former potus didn't do any of those things, but WORSE is how he hid it from the public. SO. MUCH. WORSE.🙄
Tapper was on thin ice with me, but he impugned any shred of credibility he had left with this crap.
Buh bye Jake, you're now dead to me along with countless others, I'm sure!
I used to respect Jake Tapper. He probably began this book before the election, and it's tough to turn your back on all that work. However, continuing with the book and promoting the book right now is a bad call. I respect courage. He is not showing courage.
Let's also remember Trump's incoherence, inability to remember what State he was in, confusion re who he was with during a scary helo incident. Now, his impulsive, incoherent economic policies leading to US credit downgrade.
You perfectly stated what has been in my head for days…this awful damned book media over-discussion is having an effect of Joe being the bad guy and Trump’s not so bad effect….WHAT IS GOING ON??? NPR even!
His book proves we need age and term limits. Tests for compency after age 65.
Both sides of the aisle hide officials who should be in nursing homes, not deciding how your children will be educated in the age of AI, neither care about or understand.
I had to turn off NPR twice today. Once when they referred to the dreaded book on Morning Edition and another when Fresh Air's focus was the book. Then the local CBS radio affiliate kept repeating Trump's conspiracy theory that Biden and his doctors were hiding his real condition.
NO, the issue is that White House aides lied to everyone, and that's why our popularity tanked. Refusing to ever apologize for the lie means Trump gets to rule for life.
Well, someone just released Hur's tape showing that when President Biden was discussing his dead son, HE HESITATED AND STUMBLED ON HIS WORDS -- isn't THAT odd!
Okay, but you can see Tapper's point that Dems should have taken more proactive steps to right the ship given Biden's state... like, imagine if you will if they had put pressure on him to drop out of the race in unprecedented fashion so that, spitballing, his younger seasoned VP could take over...
If Jake Tapper is still on Tv, if his book makes money then he wins. Want him to loose? Don’t buy his ‘fairy smut’(thanks Nicole Biden)& 🛑 watching his show! So bitching/complaining about Tapper & his idiocy does him no harm! But I guess it’s good to vent! Me? When fools talk I WALK! 🤷🏽♀️
The issue is the extent to which the Democratic party happily covers up major flaws in their own candidates and lies to the American people, even when those lies cost us an election and lead us headlong into fascism.
That was my thought exactly. What a tone deaf book. Are we still talking about flaws when the President and his people are breaking laws daily? Flaws don't matter to the American people.
Marco Rubio - the Secretary of State - was asked if he approved of the President selling meetings at Mar-a-Largo to foreign dignitaries. Rubio said he wasn’t involved in the President’s private social calendar …..
I actually continued watching and it was a mistake! I almost blew a gasket when Nate asked about Trump's cognitive decline and Jake's response was; that's just Trump's personality!😡🤬
🤯 That statement destroys any credibility Tapper could ever have. No sane human could excuse such incontrovertible evidence as Trump’s horrible behavior. No amount of payment is worth a lie that grotesque
Yes and the current guy is sundowning but you don't hear them mentioning one word about it. I suppose they're terrified about being thrown off a balcony or out a window or something like that.
Wait, the guy who got the unemployment rate under 4%, had job growth in the millions, and got a massive infrastructure bill passed all after the previous president destroyed the economy is old?
They said this morning on CBS, when asked about the current POTUS, (I paraphrase) that there was no indication of mental health issues, that it’s all just personality. I call BS!!!!
Oh, how sad.
The "former President" had dementia at the start of his term.
The media covered it up, as did his family.
We don't know who ran the country.
We don't know who orchestrated the pardons.
Take your b/s and get lost.
Yep, American journalism at its finest. We need to be hyperfocused on what really matters today: yesterday. If journalists in the U.S. don’t pretend to be qualified historians dissecting the past, they might be forced to confront the difficulties of actual journalism like demanding answers. HORROR!
Was Former President Biden perfect nope. Did he do his best to help our country yep. Did I lose sleep at night when he was in office nope. Do I with our current regime HELL YES!!
Exactly! Biden made me proud to be an American. Tapper should talk about the job he did, in spite of his age. You take wisdom and experience and surround yourself with smart, competent, experienced people who respect the Constitution. In this media environment, no Dem would have won.
Just one point for now: Biden filled all critical posts with highly qualified people. I’ve got plenty more to say about judging Biden on that one bad debate, and how the cartoonish nightmare we’ve got now should make the Biden/Trump contrast crystal clear. But I’ll leave that to others, today.
I think that attitude is very common, "Who cares if the president was incapacitated, as long as the posts were filled with competent people." I think that's exactly the kind of thing that makes Republicans call us weak on national security. We can't have an impaired POTUS because it is not safe.
The wrap-up: Trump is *nothing* but a nightmare, an unmitigated negative. We’d be safer if we had no president, than one whose judgement, character, and intellect are functionally nil. If something happens to Trump, we’ll be no worse off because everything he does is a net negative for the country…
…but unfortunately, the one thing he learned the first time was to ensure not *one* person of experience or integrity, to stand in the way of his violent, tyrannical whims. No Kelly, no Mattis, no Milley. Not even a risk of a Pence, finding a bit of spine at the end.
That wasn’t the point I was making. The point is two-part: We are in a crisis of unprecedented scope and magnitude, from which we may never recover. We need to deal with that, before anything else can be done. And the nature of all that is happening *now* is such that there is zero room…
…for dwelling, *right now*, on aspects of the past which will not in any way change the current, immediate and critical danger. At no time has America, or frankly any country, been anywhere near “perfect”. But now, instead of continuing to fight for better, we’re stuck fighting just to…
Imagine taking a privileged, Ivy League education, snagging the role of a lifetime at legacy media, and then shit-canning every last shred of decency to earn a few more bucks off a maga talking point.
It is! I'm disgusted with Tapper/CNN. I remember [because I'm old!] when CNN first became popular in the 80s. I didn't understand the need for 24/7 news, but at least the journalists weren't promoting their own books full of news that should have been shared for free, as Stewart wisely pointed out!
It was either Ben-Ghiat or Snyder who said we've been complacent. The Cold War ended, and we watched other countries' wars, i.e., Kosovo, Rwanda, Sudan, etc., from afar, safe in the US. We basked in our freedom while fractures to our democracy were hidden by our obsession with new shiny products. 😒
Well having worked for years in NYC and that whole East Coast corridor from DC to Boston, the strict social structure based on who your parents are and where you go to school has always been there and being enforced.
Again, over-thinking. I’ve lived there and all over. I know some of Tapper’s classmates and friends, who have more storied “pedigrees” than he. They are humble people. He’s not a Vanderbilt. He’s a celebrity pundit. That is all.

After her emails. And the laptop. And Harris' singers.
Media asking questions about Trump taking bribes: Some critics on the left have called it a bribe. Do you agree or disagree with that assessment?
Buh bye Jake, you're now dead to me along with countless others, I'm sure!

Let's forget about the fact that we have no idea who was calling the shots.
You liberals are really funny people.
Nice try at deflection, though.
Alex what?

Very suspicious!
Careful with that metaphor Eugene
Not his age.
Both Jon Dickerson and Jake Tapper, I cannot trust either of them ever again.
Their reporting is pure propaganda, because of the exaggerated coverage and the lack of honest integrity of journalism!
I’m loosing trust daily with this BS!
#cnn how do we make their ratings tank even harder?
There's a lot of reactionary "but Trump is so much worse" stuff here, but that's the point - we could have had a better chance of defeating him.
But ok.
It's uncanny!!
😅😂😆

We know who pardoned the terrorists on January 6. It was your guy
