I say we need all the experience we can get to defeat the fascists.
But primary contests as they are currently designed often reward people good at campaigning, not legislating or oversight.
It’s good to push elder statesmen to defend their record & show fitness.

We may agree primaries have limited utility for learning how to serve.
A record does not show current fitness to serve.
Defending it against questions from press, public, and political opponents is one way you show your fitness to continue to serve.
They want to pretend we have no way to evaluate an incumbent without a reelection campaign.
This is the kind of ridiculous things a person says when they’re backing a novice.
