The problem they have is that they were elected to improve public services. They also promised not to raise taxes.

These are incompatible. They have decided to prioritise a tax pledge which noone thought they could keep, as opposed to the public service improvements, which is why they were voted in

It will obviously be v difficult.

But as I wrote before the Budget, a carbon tax is the closest there is to a solution for both Labour & the economy (& the planet).

Obviously it would be great if they could even ATTEMPT to tackle the big stuff - a complete overhaul of the antiquated tax system, to ensure fairness for everyone, and to close the loopholes that exist for the wealthy to shelter their money and avoid paying their fair share.

I'm 100% pro-nationalisation, but for the sake of argument, let's say they did that, and became more popular, but wouldn't backtrack on all the horrendous rest (migrants, Israel, trans rights, disabled, etc.): I'm not sure I'd be in love with the outcome.
