There was a long campaign to convince us that automated assembly lines would give us more ‘leisure time’. Even though the Unions argued it would lead to job losses. Fewer jobs and more people with multiple job incomes now. Iniquitous zero hours contracts and part time work that pays peanuts.

Yup. Job figures aren’t easy to calculate cos of regional variations. By overall in the last 12 months there has been approximately 42,000 fewer jobs to be had. Regardless of all the job centre schemes, retraining and CV writing we’re told to do. The population increases while fewer jobs exist.
