This kind of stuff drives me batty. A bunch of people in the comments saying things like "yeah like were the Olympics ever held in Russia???" and. Yes! Eleven years ago! Were all these people born yesterday?

Like yes, we should absolutely aspire to be a great host on the world stage. But like...every international competition these days is a coin flip between either a petro state with 0 human rights, or a pseudo-authoritarian regime trying to sportswash itself.
