Deserved? Really? The freekick that preceded the handball was more simulation. Can't say I'm surprised that Pawson bought it considering how keen he's been all game to give them opportunities to score.
Pawson’s needed help from VAR, but I don’t think he’s been that bad. Wieffer could’ve been sent off earlier. Newcastle have been dominant for most of the second half
Wilson just did the exact same thing Wieffer did to earn his yellow and received nothing. Burn wiped out Minteh early doors, nothing. Newcastle may have been dominant, but they have needed to rely on simulation to actually get anything out of the game.
Whilst I think it would have been a bit soft, the fact he didn't blow up for it when he seemed quite whistle happy for the Newcastle, ones speaks volumes.
I usually think most referees are fine unless they lose control of the match or get a match-deciding call wrong. He didn’t do either of those things today imo, but I could be being too kind to him
I think "much better" is a stretch. We weren't great going forward, but Newcastle didn't exactly create loads of goal scoring opportunities. As I say, they needed to buy a freekick. If you have to cheat to get a point that's not deserved in my book.
They definitely didn’t create loads of chances, but we didn’t do anything at all outside of Gomez’s missed header. I’m not saying Newcastle had a great performance, it’s more a reflection of how poorly we played in the second half.
I don't necessarily disagree. I think I'm just angry about the FK which was clear simulation. Granted, Gomez should have put us back in the lead but couldn't manage it.
Could have? as in wrongly sent off. He wasn’t reckless, he got the ball, and didn’t follow through. Pawson was shocking today. Gave 2 pens wrongly, and still gave Newcastle benefit of the doubt when he was sold a free kick with no contact again.
