I first watched it when I was in year 3 but year 2 would be fine I think. I'd start with 'Rose' or 'The Eleventh Hour'.

It's on at 6 o'clock so isn't too horrific but can be a bit scary for a youngster. They all have different elements of creatures in them. Christopher Eccleston series started the reboot so maybe there?

6 is too young. From 8 you would probably be OK. Be guided by the annuals. They are marketed at 8-12 year olds (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Doctor-Who-Annual-2025/dp/1405965282/).

That way they can discover all of the mythos behind it as well as get used to the doctor changing. Jumping in with the most recent doctor would be very confusing, never mind too much backstory and exposition.

If they like that, you could also go for Classic Who. A good place for that would be Peter Davison, who was a young Doctor and had adventures that were the right level of scary.

And FINALLY if you want a series actually designed for children, you'd find that The Sarah Jane Adventures are nice, children-based-on-Earth stories that have some monsters in common with Doctor Who but are definitely more kid-friendly, but still 8+.

I would say age 6 is too young for Dr. Who. There are some really scary and adult themes in some of the episodes. Instead, perhaps have your child look at some of the books available for children. My 5 year old often watches with me. There are episodes that I wouldn't show him, but plenty that are bright, positive and colourful enough to pique his interest and draw him into the mythos of the show.
