Thank you so much for the link. I've never read his books and knew very little about him and his political leanings. An excellent obituary. He surely had a very interesting life though I admit, knowing now that he was a right wing conservative makes me less likely to choose his book from the shelf.

When I was a young writer, in the late 1970s, the New York Times Editorial Page was a big deal. Because, each and every day, you were going to read a first-draft of history like MVLL. My first obit was written in memoriam for Harlem Renaissance poet Countée Cullen.
