The Economist ran this story this week. Yes...they are coming for veterans benefits. No one voted to destroy the VA or the benefits that our 15 million living veterans receive. Just 6% of Americans have served and these fuckers are coming for our hard earned benefits.

"Absurd amount", even with the benefits most are living at the poverty level. They think nothing of anyone getting a "benefit" because they think it's considered a "windfall", that's absurd.

This is an *excellent* thread about the ramifications of cutting military benefits. We're already struggling with recruitment and retention, and almost everyone I know (myself included) either joined for or decided to stay in because of the medical and education benefits.

I've said for years that if we ever got universal health care and truly public higher ed it would wreck military recruiting, but getting rid of those benefits for us will have the same effect with none of the broader societal benefits. It would be catastrophic.

How about the compensation and pension benefits aren't going anywhere.. but there's no consequences for them if they don't provide the healthcare so long as they're handing out pills and seeing people. Let's focus on something real.

Would be interesting to pin some of these people down on exactly what aspect of earned Veterans' benefits they find wasteful, or absurdly generous. I think they have it backwards. What our disabled Veterans have given up for our country is absurdly generous.
