Everyone condemning experts on tyranny for leaving the country needs to recognize that Trump is disappearing people from universities and you can't lead anything when you're dead.

For real. I was surprised to hear about the heat they’re getting when you spoke of it yesterday. When I heard they left, I was so grateful to know they can continue speaking out and that we can benefit from their intellectual labor. People aren’t thinking clearly about this one.
No hate for any of them. Would be happy to drive up to Canada to deliver Dr. Snyder’s choice of New Haven pizza to him any day. (Even better if he likes Modern.)
I believe you but find it difficult to understand why people would condemn these intellectuals for leaving. Especially the PhD in authoritarianism. Instead of grasping the reality of the situation and trying to do something about it, they blame their own. Some people are idiots.
We need these powerful voices to shine a light on how we are descending into fascism, and what we can do to resist. They won't be much help to us if they've been disappeared. And I don't fault anyone for wanting to leave this country to seek a better life for themselves and their children.
Just going to say it: the people who are upset about this tend to be the people who expect others to sacrifice their lives and the lives of their children to fascism as they themselves do nothing but sit behind a keyboard complaining.
Yes‼️
because IMHO,
so called “ACTIVISTS”
who refuse to see the context,
criticize leading anti-fascists as ‘hypocrites who are obeying in advance’,
criticize defenders of Snyder,Stanley and Shore as ‘no better than Trumpers’
need to learn look in the mirror and realize they are the PROBLEM eg⬇️
And the thinking of “kaktivists” who witlessly weild slogans like
“Don’t Obey in Advance” like clubs to beat leading anti-fascists, is a divisive scourge on our movement.
The 20 lessons of ON TYRANNY need to be appreciated HOLISTICALLY, with nuance, and humanistically.
I cannot emphasise how resentful I am of Navalny for returning to Russia. Everyone recognizes Putin for who & what he is; did Navalny believe he was the "Second Coming"?
I view it as a callous abandonment of his wife and loyal followers.

When you see the writing on the wall and it's potentially a death warrant, get out.
My paternal grandparents also left Poland for Canada in 1937 because of Hitler.

Or Thomas Mann?
Siegmund Freud?
Marlene Dietrich? (Ok, she was already in the USA since beginning of the 30s, but didn't go back and refused to go along with German Nazi propaganda!)
If you were a pessimist you’re swimming in your pool in Beverly Hills and if you were an optimist you’re dead.
