I was talking to someone and they expressed concern about publicly supporting Palestine, being visibly queer, wearing a mask and speaking against fascism because it would put them on the receiving end of hate.
I can tell you from experience you will receive hate and lose opportunities. Change is uncomfortable, and fighting for change even more so. If we stay silent because we’re scared, we’ve already lost.
History wasn’t made by people silently hoping for things to get better.
What I have found is that I was always going to get the hate anyway as I am all those things (queer, disabled, masking etc) but now, being outspoken, I also receive an abundance of love and connection. When you close yourself off you do so to the good as well.
