It's super cringe as a black metal fan to like Cradle of Filth but they're easily the campest black metal (adjacent) band and it's like watching a bunch of straight people appropriate their favourite horror tropes from a bunch of gay/queer authors etc and I find that fucking hilarious.

I've not kept up with them but I saw them live in 2000 and they were excellent. Midian is still a really great album. I feel like they, a long with Dimmu Borgir, were called "sellouts" and "false metal" because they made black metal that was catchy.

Used to be a fan, but I drifted off them after finding out Dani Filth is (or was then) kind of a dick and had a weird chip on his shoulder about his height, and various complaints about other members being hard to work with (I don't remember names, it was a while ago)

I haven't listened to CoF in aaaaages, but the riffing in Her Ghost in the Fog lives rent free in my head, it' so fuckin' good
