This may just be bleedover from COVID messing everything up, but I'm amazed at the lack of "destination" US cons where there's something as an attraction in addition to the furry stuff. There's Aquatifur, Furry Ski Weekend, and the camping cons, but I really can't think of any besides that. - ThreadSky

There needs to be some more variety. I don't know much about the other cons, but FurDU on the Gold Coast has an annual beach walk, where all the fursuiters and attendees walk out onto the beach at Surfer's Paradise and plant a flag.

Many cons had special events or variations on normal events that made them interesting. As cons get bigger and happen regularly, the unique things vanish and they all become the same.

More than this - the gap between attendees and staff numbers is growing - and the activities that used to happen such as parades and full group photos become more difficult to do

I’m seeing a major revival of various furry events in SoCal, but trying to get them to think beyond generic cons can be like pulling teeth. Gimme my party bus to vegas or a Palm Springs resort takeover a la COG or hell, an old school circuit show.

This makes me twitch a little thinking of the various cons over the years where you could tell the absolute bare minimum effort was put into programming past the obligate dances and such. There's being a party con, and then there's that.

There’s a reason last FC when I saw rookie mistakes at parties it kinda supercharged my desire to plan events. My time with club kids & in nightlife went “okay move kiddies, embarrassing us. Daddy’s gonna show you how this is done.”

Surprisingly made a lot of success that way just taking agency.

as a photographer, I feel a little bad campaigning for an end to the big con photo... But literally no other event tries to take a photo of 500+ people without risers 🙃 and furry events are allergic to the costs beyond AV.

There are unique cons (furry cruise, gotf, etc) but "furry vacation" is a niche that doesn't fit in a lot of people's budgets. Esp for everyone doing these events for work

Agreed; I completely understand why, say, MFF can't really do group fursuit *anything* just because of sheer numbers, but it feels like it's gotten to a point where a lot of younger furs see fursuit parades as passé because they're so much less common now, and they just see "lol AC death march".
