I don’t think they had that when I was there. What year was that? I was only there for a few months in late ‘08, and we mostly kept to our own compound at the edge of the base.
I was at FOB Hunter south of Amarah in 09-10. Our only non-Army food option was whatever chicken and fixings the local dude with all our support contracts would bring in.
Al Kut was my only Iraq deployment (vs 6 in Afghanistan), I was only there 2 1/2 months, and ended up getting dysentery 2/3rds of the way through. I actually had my replacement come out early because I felt I was NMC. Absolutely zero good memories of that place.
Yeah, it was 1-9 Cav as I recall. Which was weird because WE had been 1-9 Cav until a reflag the year before. And no, there wasn’t shit there but marsh and smugglers (of IED parts, etc.)
I remember coming away thinking that little stacks of copper plates were probably one of the least “interdictable” things by a conventional US Army unit in any kind of meaningful scale
