“It only takes a few weeks to train a care worker” There in a sentence showing just how clueless politicians are, yet no challenge from the interviewer #bbclaurak

The demands of care work, and the training needed to provide it, are as varied as the individuals who need its support. Some rolls may only need a couple of weeks, others a year. They are all important and needed to provide an effective care service.
No challenge because interviewer has a prescribed set of questions to ask, and a preset time slot, which rules out follow up questions. #r4today no longer a news program of any merit.
As someone who has taught health and social care courses to care workers, it takes a minimum 12 months to get basic training and a qualification. Most study for 3 to 4 years.
I did care work where I only received a couple of weeks training - it was for a private company😉 I went into peoples homes, mainly did cleaning/housework/shopping, making them food, washing them etc
Mmm doing actual work ok that’s right. Getting qualifications to move up a step no. Not right. Lots to know. And many leave because of pay vs responsibility not in balance. Poor practice people aren’t comfortable with. The problem is the business model that prioritises profit over care and wages

Disappointing l know, but ‘are they going to rock the boat’ seems to be the main consideration.
