It might be difficult because it is inherently an emotionally charged conversation. It's difficult to be casual about something when talking about fair treatment of living animals.

To be honest it seems like a self evident moral argument for anyone who
1. Cares about minimizing suffering
2. Recognizes that animals suffer tremendously in meat production

It's not like it takes a PhD

I fully agree, I’m a vegan, I’ve tried to avoid being preachy for fear of putting people off. It’s so hard to balance. Like you say, knowing the right thing doesn’t take a PhD.

Veganism is often presented as a morality/empathy conversation that uses emotionally charged reasoning and requires keen self awareness.

Have we considered that this is a high communication skill check done to those with low communication skill? And that discrepancy is the failure to communicate?

I'm vegetarian & cruelty-free and I never proselytize or judge other people's life choices. I rarely even talk about it because some folks get screaming-in-my-face incensed at the mere IDEA that I've chosen to live my life this way 🤷‍♀️

For real. I'm a vegetarian because meat triggers autistic texture repulsion in me and people still try to argue with me and convince me I'm missing out because "it tastes *so good*".

I think lots of meat eaters are aware that it's unethical but instead of accepting that there are lots of unethical things we do to make our lives easier or more tolerable (what I did) and instead just need everyone else to be complicit so they don't need to feel guilty.

Yeah, the point is for me it's not even for ethical reasons. It's just a nope food I don't like. I mean sure, the ethical reasons are nice, but I wouldn't want lab-grown either, nor do I like TVP that reminds me too much of chicken.
