It's a rule thumb I was brought up with and was meant to agree with your point that not telling people the price won't lead to more sales because at least some of us will not ask on the grounds that it'll be too expensive

Now that you have framed it like that, I can understand.

But for some of us it's also just the added discomfort of forced interaction. I may not want to buy something impulsively or share my contact information, but once I interact, I feel a bit answerable? I just want to avoid that bit.

I have been thinking about this a lot. I followed it in the initial days because everyone was doing the same. Then once I added everything to the store, I stopped. I think people are trying to get more interactions on post for the algorithmic thing. Sucks anyway

I saw the prettiest baby pink chikan kurta recently I know it's going to be beyond my means. But if the price was already out there, I wouldn't be wasting anyone's time, with my query.

I just can't send that DM when I don't know the price, it's a vicious circle.

And when selling cakes, I have always shared prices up front, on the menu. Less enquiries, but a greater rate of them converting into a sale.

I don't know the psychology behind feeling trapped after asking for prices but it feels bad to reject when they have already put in the time to market their product and interact with me.
I love it when prices are clearly mentioned.
