California HSR, with far more land acquisition costs and more complex geography, is only running ~35% more/mile than Brightline West's SoCal-Vegas. Further, Brightline West will not be fully double-tracked while CaHSR will.

Anyways, this provides a pretty good sanity check for CA-HSR's much-attacked costs. Assuming Wall Street makes them cough up an actual contingency, you're talking about ~140m/mi for double tracked HSR. CA HSR is running about ~35% above that for a vastly more complicated build.
