The DM’s Handbook is actually a pretty good orientation for starting out as a DM. The other thing is to decide what kind of adventure you want to play out & make sure your players are on the same page - lots of combat? Gritty & violent? Cosy mystery? Court intrigue? You can run pre-made or your own.
The Dungeon Dudes on YouTube have a comprehensive video on all of the official campaign books, including advice on what experience level is appropriate for DMs and players.
Well I know what I’ll be watching on my break tomorrow, I appreciate the direction — I definitely assumed I’d have to do a little bit of research so it’s really nice to know where to start!
