listen to @robogeek.bsky.social, @okbjgm.bsky.social, and the indefatigable @producerbrad.bsky.social take on this eighties classic and tell us in the comments - how does eddie murphy and dan aykroyd’s “trading places” hold up in the 21st century?

In the futures market, you are buying or selling a contract on a commodity in the future. So, if you think the price will go up, you buy. If down, you sell.
To exit a contract you bought, you sell an offsetting contract.
Say the price is $50 (for some quantity). If I think it's going to go up to $60, I buy a new contract for $50. When the price does go up to $60, I sell a new contract for $60. The two contracts cancel each other out, and I made $10 (60-50=10).
Also, it used to be that if you didn't close out the contract, you took physical delivery of the commodity. Can you store 1000 gallons of OJ?
I know there are some cringe moments but there are hardly any Landis movies I don’t adore. It’s the little things, like eating the fake beard along with the salmon.
LOUIS!
plus any movie shot in philly i’ll defend, even mannequin
And the greatest look to camera in history, in the 'Dukes explain their job' scene.
It's heart is certainly in the right place but it's got a lot of bits that need apologists for, which sucks because it's a movie I want to show so, so many people for its core message
But then there's the parts that no amount of "it's of an era" handwaving can get you past.
