It's interesting for me who writes local history how this works. They take the loan figures from a random selection of libraries and average those out... meaning sometimes I get v little, then, if my local libraries are included... a modest bump in payment... I think I need to go for wider appeal!

The statement provides estimated loans per title, based on 'grossing up' the small sample from wider total lending figures.

So it's true local authors can often get nothing if their library service is not in the sample, or get lots of it is.

It’s an estimate. This is from the PLR section of the British Library website. (But note that the system is changing over the next few years).

Interestingly, the current PLR year (the one we’ll get statements for in 12 month’s time) seems to be sampling lots more authorities than in previous years. Maybe they’re just going to keep adding more authorities every year from now on until they’ve got them all covered?
