Indeed, trying to write "something that matters" can get in the way of telling a good story or writing an essay that touches some essential truth.

That's pretty much the conclusion my writing coach and I came too last week. Since then I've had a really good think about my wip and am changing the emphasis and making it less complicated and more accessible. Still don't care if anyone reads it.

Too true. I don't think my trilogy is massively theme heavy but an early review said they read the book all night at the hospital waiting for their dad's recovery and that is certainly good enough for me.
