they do, but gowns have been falling by the wayside for years as cocktail slutty have become normal. I'm in team gown forever, but that's only partly because they are gorgeous - it's mostly because you can have more strategic undergarments for weather/chaffing/pockets under voluminous skirts
I wish MORE events required gowns. I do not want to wear a short dress but I don’t want people to think I’m tryna upstage the bride wearing a gown when it wasn’t requested 🙁
Black tie optional just sounds passive aggressive, like "we'd prefer you show up looking like Daniel Craig James Bond but Glass Onion Daniel Craig is fine". A bit extra.
I'm at an Indian wedding with the most unhinged and vague instructions possible so I'm trying to make sure my coworker doesn't show up in anything scandalous

They are also hosting it at the aquarium.
This crowd read it as "suits required, tux optional" for men, which is kind of close, but there's a looooot of cocktail dresses.
But both imply gowns for women.
All of Madame's dress choices, really.
I would, if forced, tan suit that shit.
