Can't decide if I'm unique or a freak for taking writing breaks NOT when I'm stuck, but when I've actually done a few paragraphs I like and seem to have accumulated a head of steam. I do it every. Single. Time.

Yes!!! Just wrote that to someone. I think it’s fear-based. I can’t face the frustrations and anxieties that are sure to come when I slide into the next ditch.
I wonder about the sanity of my constantly interrupted mode of writing. I go for say 15 minutes, then take a break and look at eg the NYTs for a couple minutes, clearing my head so I can go back to the topic with a fresh mind. Haven't decided whether this is the sign of a demented intellect.
A writing professor of mine years ago said stop when you're on a high note, that way you'll get back to it on a high note. Stop when you're stuck and it's harder to go back to it. Same with studying.
I don't think you're unique. And I think it's important to go with whatever your writing Muse is telling you. I'm on a roll! Hey, let me take a break. I think I've done that. I'll be writing and it's going well, and then I say, hey what's going on over at Blue sky?

So, techically speaking, you're a unique freak.
Avoidance and dread, with sprinkling of procrastination, isn't a healthy cycle for your being!!
