BREAKING NEWS: The order follows TikTok going dark for about 14 hours after the Supreme Court upheld a law prohibiting the service from operating in the U.S. unless it breaks away from its parent company in China.

Continue questioning how this all plays out. Unless the ban goes through proper channels to be reversed, I feel it's an indication that Trump is abusing his power.
Might be wrong, not a political expert in check and balances.
It’s all a political stunt. The fact that his name is on the app is f*cked up. Thanks to President Obama’s ACA we have greater access to affordable healthcare, but you don’t get messages like “as a result of President Obama, your Pap smear is free of charge,” or “we’ll actually treat your cancer…”
He can’t do this, but of course nothing will happen to him. The 90 days was if there was a legitimate buyer. The US Govt is not.
But glad to know the division of powers means shit in this country anymore. So if he doesn’t have to follow SCOTUS, Roe v Wade being overturned can be ignored too?
The orange warthog is overriding both Congress and the Supreme Court! Welcome to the next four years of you choice:
1) Oligarchy
2) Autocracy
3) Kakocracy
Is US user data still served through Oracle? Akamai? Has any such data become more accessible to companies run by Meta\Amazon\Xwitter\OpenAI? What changes to terms of service, data sharing has changed?
The "pause in service" is a classic algorithm for installation of new programming. Reboot
I recall someone wanting TT banned but the grinch’s cold tiny heart twitter twit twit all of a sudden delays the axe while pockets are filled and the less fortunate continue to decline, it’s no longer a rabbit hole but our mass grave by the rockets red glare.
At this point do we want tiktok? The idea was attacked by the oligarchs because they didn’t share their information with them. What will tiktok become? Another fb/x that shares your data
So Congress passes a bill, the President signs it into law, the Supreme Court upholds the law, but the next president can issue an EO ignoring the law?
I don’t think that an executive order has any effect on pausing or changing a law that was put in place by Congress and upheld by the Supreme Court. He can do like Biden did and not enforce the law.
The law says there has to be a pending sale, the 90 day extension was to provide time for the sale to be completed. ByteDance says it's not selling. Not that trump cares, but how does his EO meet the requirements of the law?
...extension of not more than 90 days ... if the President certifies to Congress that— (A) a path to executing a qualified divestiture has been identified
... there must be "evidence of significant progress" towards a sale, which include "the relevant binding legal agreements to enable" a sale.
His last term we realized so much is just how things are done and not actual laws. But yeah, he always pushes laws past their breaking point. And now he has all 3 branches of the govt, major social media and popular billionaires on his side.
IDK what it all allows but they've been talking about this on TikTok for the last 2 weeks. Biden could have done it too. Unfortunately I think wad intentional to make Trump look like the hero. Most of TT Americans still hate him.
It would have been just as illegal if Biden had extended it. The law requires a pending sale. That's why Biden said he wouldn't enforce it rather than give the delay
TikTok is done.
Bringing it back with Trump’s fat, Cheeto hands in it will not bring back its users.
We wanted freedom. We wanted a voice. We will not go back to his scraps.
Whether you agree with the ban or not, Congress passed the law. SC upheld it. The Executive executes laws passed by the legislative branch and deemed constitutional by the judicial.
If this is allowed to stand, that's it. Co-equal branches is done.
So the president unilaterally can suspend all congressionally passed laws & all U.S. Supreme Court rulings at will. What’s the point of having Congress & SCOTUS?
The dirty secret is that SCOTUS has no way of enforcing its rulings. Trump ignoring his hand picked court was always going to happen. But to your point, there is no point in having the court. Not in its current partisan iteration.
Wood pulp comes from Canada’s boreal forests. The US’s chronic addiction to Canada’s sweet, sweet toilet paper, paired with 25%tarifs will make US toilet paper more expensive.
So no mention at all about how the executive branch is just ignoring a law passed by congress, signed by a president, and unanimously upheld by the Supreme Court? NPR sure is complicit with fascism.
Given that Meta ads are being introduced to TikTok and fundamentally breaking it down for use, it sure seems like it’s already bought. Either the app is compromised and Meta have become cyber-terrorists or they’re hiding the sale while Meta extorts your data for sale to the highest bidder.
I deleted that app as soon as I saw the President Trump will bring us back or such B.S. because I was a tech nerd and I have a feeling that it’s now under the control of the Musk/Zuck consortium. Then I saw all of the reposts about posts being removed and certain search results being hidden.
Trump can only pause the shutdown one time for up to 90 days. In order to stop it permanently he would need Congress to pass a law repealing the first one. He thinks he can get them to sell to a US owner in that 90 days. I doubt that will happen.

No one seems to mind....
Republicans do what ever they want. No reprocussions

All apply, and none are democracy!

(Yeah, i'm just gonna be attaching this to random posts from now on)
You can find lots of video of the full action, it's harder to find people calling it what it is.
It seems different. It came back like Pet Cemetery different
God Bless America 🥰
That's now a thing?
Of course they want to posture.

Everyone involved in this loves to posture, talk a big game...and lie.
Because of their fragile egos, I'm sure there's much more we don't know.
For anyone taking me dead serious:
Don't.
Also, what's legal and what's legal according to Trump and his "experts" aren't true same thing: they don't send their best. 🤣
In reality, we have a king.
