Loving Day, the landmark case that overturned U.S. state laws against interracial marriage, is on June 12. NPR wants to hear from people who celebrate this day.

... crap! Plenty of people don't celebrate a ruling because they are living their lives in their DIVERSE and LOVING families. I'm so disgusted with legacy media and this is why.
Hey, your brain is crap. Seniors still with us that were able to marry after '67 absolutely do (and their children/grandchildren using this platform may see this post). You're a daft sourpuss—NPR has *always* done this kind of reporting. Get right w/ Jesus or something.
Asking people to reply to a meaningless post about the anniversary date. Cover the substance of what’s impacting ppl now. You folks are insufferable and arrogant.
Hey I am biracial - born in ‘70 and I am entitled to express my opinion no matter what done jackoff thinks doesn’t resonate with his. I don’t see the value of focusing on the Loving ruling when so many legislative roll backs are happening that are tearing down hard won rights. There is no substance
Why? This is stupid. Quit focusing on issues in a racially divisive and hateful country for click bait and DO YOUR JOURNALISTIC JOB covering the real issues impacting the public like the massive dismantling of Medicaid, SS, Snap... all the things that impact people's lives. Enough with the culture
I would love for Clarence Thomas to overturn this one.
Based on local law before the Loving case, the sheriff would be required to immediately throw him in jail for marrying a white woman.
I’m one of those people. I have 1 biracial son & 3 biracial stepchildren + 4 biracial grandchildren & 1 biracial brother. Our family wouldn’t be possible without this landmark case
Never heard of this holiday, but I am in an interracial marriage. However, even saying 'interracial' gives credence to the idea of 'race' which is a social construct with no scientific validation.
Thank you, Lovings!
(My parents -white man and black woman- married in 1955 in DC. It was illegal for them to do so in at least 1/2 the states. If they visited my mother’s family in VA, they could be arrested!Strangely, the world still turned and darkness didn’t cover the earth cause they married. 🥰
Is this part of the Feds' attempt to make a list? I won't put my family's name on the list. I married a human being, who biologically is of the same species, regardless of superficial differences.
I only found out recently that Mildred Loving had spoken up in support of same sex marriage. These two aren't so far apart historically and I do consider them to be connected. It would be nice if you covered the fact that Pete Hegseth feels that Juneteenth isn't somethi to celebrate.

Thank you, sweetheart... i am grateful that I was able to make sure he got good pain-management in his last year, and i was able to be with him when he died. ♥️🌿 bs"d
interracial: of, involving, or designed for members of different races.
We're all the same race. We're all the human race. I don't care what color you are, nationality, or creed. We're all humans. The only race or people on the planet are humans! Love who you want to. Be who you want to be.
Not virtue signaling. I'm not saying that people aren't prejudice. All I'm saying is genetically, and physically we are all human beings. Growing up I was taught to never judge by color. I was taught to see people for how they act. Yes, everyone sees color. But it doesn't matter we're all human.
That's my point. He married a white woman so he doesn't want anyone else to have interracial marriages. He also benefitted from Affirmative Action despite being a strong opponent of it.
The Lovings were from Virginia where I spent most of my life prior to moving to Pennsylvania. I remember that case even though I was quite young. Interestingly enough there was an interracial couple down the street from me in Hampton and no one ever said a word.
We haven’t in the past, but are going to start doing it this year. In almost 25 years, we never thought about anything but our love for one another. Last year was the first time we recognized some saw us as an abomination
Yeah, so that they can enter your name into a database to hand over to the government for future targeting when the government runs out of people to screw over. The journalism sector has been one of the biggest disappointments of our time. Was Trump right when he said, "enemy of the people"? 🤔
Arguments for ending the right to contraception generally stem from a mix of religious, moral, & philosophical beliefs. But constitutionally, we are a secular republic; no one’s religious, moral, or philosophical beliefs should be more important than their oath of office & shouldn’t be legislated.
We should all celebrate that basic human rights were recognized. We should all be ashamed that our country took so long to get there and is now backsliding.
I’ve never heard of this holiday before! When I was born in 1959, my mom (white) & dad (black) weren’t allowed to marry in some of our states. Now, women in this country no longer have the federal right to make their own healthcare decisions. I’m tired of living in a country that hates my guts.
Celebrate???? Celebrate that it took that long for a court order? And the court order was necessary because racists controlled so many states? This is a day of shame. This is what is wrong with NPR. DISGUSTING TAKE.
Imagine living thru that nonsense. And all the racism before 1967. Thankfully the 1963 March on Washington brought changes. And now we’re slipping back because of trump and his MAGAts.
I got married late in life, but when I did marry (22 years ago), it was to a brown, Pakistani woman. trilingual (English, French, Urdu) daughter looks more Pakistani than gora.
I like whenever boomers get triggered by interracial couples in ads, when I don't even notice them as anything other than stock footage of a bland couple lol
It’s not Boomers who get triggered it’s MAGAs of all generations. Boomers were part of civil rights act outlawing discrimination in the 60’s, free love tradition in the 70’s, opening the door for the Loving act in the late 60’s. We’re old now but, thank you Boomers!
No doubt the Executive Branch of the US Fed gov will create an Executive Order claiming THEY have the authority to overturn such laws, even WITHOUT Congress and the Judicial Branch’s authorization.
Any takers on a low bet? I’ll be nice so you don’t lose too much.
Considering there’s only one human race, it’s stupid. I’d be more interested to read stories about different ethnicities getting together. Color is a poor indicator of interest.

and so are the families that it makes.

Democrats have been bringing it up for decades, though. 🤔
Don’t need a date on a calendar to celebrate basic rights that’s a daily thing.
NPR, this isn’t the time to start making lists of people. Have some historical perspective.

I shake my head at this just as I shake my head at the celebrations of same sex marriage too
'Winning' rights from social constructed institutions to do something natural?

Everyone should just accept diversity and move on.
