Nintendo is risking their brand loyalty releasing these higher prices when people are worried about the economy and nickel and dimes by subscriptions.

I think we all have a big enough backlog to wait them out.

I'd have to give that some thought. At the very least, I'd probably say that any game I've wanted to play for 200+ hours (without relying on drip-fed content, a small game loop, or dopamine addiction) is worth that to me.

Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Satisfactory, Megaman Battle Network 3 come to mind.

Metaphor, Tears of the Kingdom, and Final Fantasy XVI. Starfield and Cyberpunk would also have been included, if not for launch bugs. Outside of those, nothing has shown me over $60 worth of value. Hence why I usually wait for games to drop to $20-$40.

I also grabbed those three at launch, but I haven't played through FF XVI past the demo yet. Got side tracked and then lost interest.

Waiting for sales is the best play if you're patient enough and if you're not into a niche game series that sells out of physical copies quickly.

Let’s be honest. With the condition many games are released in, $40 would be a much more honest price. Funny enough, by the time these games get down to the $40 or less price point, they’re arguably worth the $60-$70, but at launch when they actually cost that, not even close. 😅

lol, $40 was the number I had in my head. I DO enjoy some Mario Kart! ...but after the first week, I only play...maybe twice a year, realistically. I always feel like I'm overpaying...but also pick up each entry anyway. 🤷‍♂️

hour-wise, I've gotten my money's worth out of Diablo 4 (I paid for the most expensive package at launch) although I would not really consider it worth the money in terms of entertainment. It's just so not very good :D just addictive for certain people (like me)

The replayability will certainly be a factor, but even looking at DK Bananza, which looks to be a typical 40-50 hour experience, even giving it that $70 price point is ludicrous.

I feel that anything Nintendo puts out that is Mario or adjacent, they think they can get away with it.

Looking at Metroid Prime Remastered at $40, that's very reasonable, since it's a port. Yet this same logic doesn't apply to DKCR HD or Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, which are both $60, despite also being ports.

I mean, so far every single Mario kart game that was released since 64 (except seven I think) have a rabidly passionate modding scene and speed running scene, as well as a permanent party night game spot.

Mario kart might be one of the titles to earn it, alongside smash.

We're gonna see another industry crash if this becomes the norm. Nobody's paying $80 digital and $90 physical in this economy. That's like Special Edition with physical souvenirs shit, not just a game alone.
