i like that they think making toot chubby with occasional exaggerated unconventionally attractive features will make her repulsive to the broader audience as if she isn't one of the most memorable characters from this show.
Misogyny and fatphobia are the dumb bitches that try to tell you love handles are bad, as if their name and premise both aren't plastered with reasons to think they rule
I've come to the conclusion that all those "warnings" about games, TV shows, and movies having a "corruptive influence" was just a projection--a declaration that it would expose the so-called pearl-clutchers who imitate it rather than the fear it would "make our children evil."
They weren't worried about the effects any of it would have on people--they were afraid we'd realize that Family Guy isn't telling jokes, and might want people to be different from them instead of celebrating them.
While i do remember the whole cast well enough, she was definitely like the least forgettable and was always my fave. I really, really wish that the show had been in better hands, it had the basis to be GREAT while still making parodies of each "show" the characters came from that were more clever
not familiar with this show, but this Betty Boop lookin girl is a bit cute
I can't tell how she would be repulsive in any way (at least in the screenshots you shown), perhaps I forgot when I started drawing cute girls with unconventional features
And the thing is it has SUCH a good joke they used a bit. But then leaned so hard into her “grossness”
Make the Betty Boop type the scheming reality show villain character type would be more than enough subversion
Drawn Together had a really good premise, but in execution, it was the kind of show you look back on and say, "Oh, Adam Carolla was involved. I guess that isn't really surprising."
god I remember hating that. her character's premise, in the writers' eyes, is that old sex icons are fat and ugly by modern beauty standards. the writers thought that premise was funny enough to make the same "joke" a million times
The the early to mid 2000s was like the worst time for pretty much all forms of media but nobody was willing to admit it because that would require critiquing nostalgia for the last major era for the internet was like not being the overwhelmingly dominant force in our lives
yes everyone is blinded by nostalgia for a time period where everything felt new and exciting and they didn't have to worry too much about paying bills.
i will say that animated media was at an amazing peak, but it would be foolish to ignore the casual hateful bigotry present in them too.
Even just a single like a piece of comedy from that era would get your liver crying for mercy. Genuinely stuff you would expect to see a 1903 joke book not a 2003 one
I feel like a perfect example of this was how Japanese games especially the jrpgs were treated on the PS3 and Xbox. Some of the best games ever made completely bombed or treated as a joke at the time because they weren't in the line of something like fallout. Or cod or whatever.
Which left games like Lost Odyssey stranded on the 360 where nobody wanted it and literal band campaigns just to get stuff like Xenoblade Chronicles even available in the West. It may not be much progress but I'm glad gamers have at least sort of shaken off this mindset a bit
yeah fr... offensive humour can be absolutely phenomal if done correctly, but these people just decided only punching down was the best idea. it was not it, bro.
