As a black man, you probably already know, but weren't monkeys used as racist depictions of black people???
Not trying to hit you with a "Gotcha!" or whatever, just sorta felt my anxiety spike a little from remembering casually racist coworkers after seeing this.
This! Salam has every right to make a black coded monkey character as a black man himself! What would be bad is if someone like I a white man did the same. Which I won't and should not because it would be racist
I know, like I said to someone else, I'm a weirdo who genuinely worries about the people I follow. ^^;
Ftr, I'm white as wonder bread and have major anxiety. Recently had to explain to a coworker how calling a black man an "annoying monkey" could get him in very big trouble.
As someone lgbt+, yes, I do. But those also aren't things that get people canceled because they ARE reclaimed to a degree, with how often I see them.
And I know things don't affect everyone the same way, but I only have my own experiences to accurately measure and compare with.
if youre concerned about op being targeted by racists, no matter how much you sanitize yourself a racist will always make up a reason to start a flame war.
ive seen trans but especially black users get cancelled for far far less.
i actually did this with a couple of bloons (the monkey popping balloons game) characters and then got nervous about the implications, but it's good to hear that it's probably all well and good
If you do, I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with cause your art is wicked good. That, and you really don't see many monkey characters at all.
u should draw the dk crew ngl. esp tiny kong. been actually dying to see black artists draw them because theyre SO very black coded but white artists simply will not do em justice
For real. Primate fursonas (especially apes) are extremely under used, which sucks because because apes are really fuckin cool. Especially great apes, they literally have great in the name.

As in, despite the potential association, heβs not gonna let it get in the way of their self expression
