because once you hit college age, you should already be working in an office and know what you want in life. You can't make a protagonist someone who knows what they want in life, and/or someone who works in an office.
Or I guess, someone who knows what they want and is attainable. Iunno.
for me, the only anime I've seen depicted most women above 24 is dragon ball. tho, the oldest female characters barely have any actual wrinkles or grey hair in their 50s.
And now we have Bulma wishing to be younger. She was just joking about that at EoZ but her character has regressed enough now that she's actually doing it.
My thoughts exactly. Same shit happens in games too. There's so many stories and scenarios that we could get with older peeps in general but youth is apparently so important.
I wanna know about the older women with that true to form life experience y'know. I think that shit is neat.
Please check out The Kabocha Wine if you can; it's a sweet little high-school romcom from the 80s, about a tall, plus-size girl, and the short guy she's crushing on. There's a lot of body diversity in its characters, all of whom are treated with respect, and it's very offbeat, funny and sweet.
I know this is a rhetorical question, but:
- Cartoons aimed at younger audiences are generally going to feature younger main characters
- Post-otaku-boom (90s onward) anime feeds into itself and the unchecked misogynistic/conservative biases of the people making it
Lately I've been enjoying Uchuusen Sagittarius, which is about characters old enough to have families, and start their own business, if you're looking for something silly, cute, and with a primarily adult cast. And assuming you like old sci-fi. Do it for her
unironically, it's bc the people who make anime now are the generation of ppl who grew up as its fans, so they're "otaku" before they're artists. that's why older anime has more adult women. however, take this w/ a grain of salt, bc i heard it second-hand from a big-time anime nerd who's my friend.
i think its bc in japan high school life is often seen as the peak of most Japanese ppl's lives. its the only time where they have freedom i guess. when theyre older, they basically have to work 24/7 in favor of a social life, so that's why a lot of animes are centered around younger ppl

it sucks that you can't recommend anime half the time without having to give a disclaimer
like in the asexuality lesbian series ‘she loves to cook, she loves to eat’
The mains are clearly in their early 20s, but at least they act like real adults lol
When you're that old on the Internet, you develop JPEG artifacts instead of wrinkles.

Naomi from Zenshuu - Unknown age? She's on the older side, though.
Miho Shirakawa from ODDTAXI - 28 years old.
Sebun from Beastars - 29 years old
everything else about he portrays women though..... ehhhhh....
Most ppl want a youthful person as their partner
Even old asses
