We need to avoid glass at all costs. In the early 70's you couldn't go for more than a few months without a broken bottle puncturing your tires. It was so chronic, they invented steel belted radial tires. You'd think aluminum would be well tested.

One bummer of a caveat that this story captures well: With plastic bags still unregulated across much of the U.S., the bag litter problem is still getting worse everywhere. Can't read due to paywall. Does it mention that California's plastic bag ban resulted in more plastic trash because stores replaced single use plastic bags with much thicker plastic bags that everyone immediately threw away?

I use my own bags and they work! And “bottle bills” work too! But nobody is willing to do those. Glad we have our Bottle Returns here in Michigan but the Republicans keep talking about getting rid of it.
