YES YES YES. Layers of acquiescence here. Nobody, I mean fucking nobody, thinks that the Gulf of Mexico is the Gulf of America. They seize power illegitimately & THEN rely on a combination of terror, propaganda, and cowardice to keep the process going. Stupid articles like this take us back FFS.
“Revanchism is valid and a natural, acceptable ideology that we all must condone if enough people are loud about it,” is the subtext of every “listen to both sides” framing, whether the writer knows it or not. This person knows it.
I run into this practiced neutrality constantly in the nonpartisan “democracy” sector. The highest virtue seems to be the loss of all discernment of right & wrong, to float above it all, lest one be considered a partisan. To judge something “authoritarian” is to be judged as the real authoritarian.
Pound-for-pound, there isn't a worse publication than the Atlantic. Every bullet the IDF sends towards the head of a toddler is a whimsical puzzle for the Atlantic staff to show its brilliance in mental gymnastics. "Let me show you less enlightened folks how this barbaric act was actually good"
