What if there is though

My problem with this critique is that it seems to not recognize that emails in many scenarios are already transactional—there is no need for the “human touch” in something like a corporate email giving a weekly update.

I delete the regular bland email updates my organisation's corporate hq sends out, unread, and eagerly await and immediately read the dumb dad jokes and unhinged tangential rants from my immediate boss when he sends out his biweekly update about the same objectively boring topics.

We constantly generate useless busywork because so much of our social order is predicated on the meritocracy fable, so you better be working all the time.

Then we realize we can automate these things nobody wants or need, and cruft suddenly becomes a growth industry.

This isn't even about something having a "human touch," if you're just gonna generate an e-mail at me, why are you even sending it? What is GenAI going to update me on? If you have something to update me on, that's 98% of the e-mail -- are you incapable of writing "Hey everyone!" at the top?

"We feed everything our company does into AI, because I'm scared of writing e-mails" is the opposite of productivity enhancements. It's hiring the billion dollar robot version of the Jump to Conclusions guy from Office Space.
