Before I served, I was not a tolerant person. One thing the Army taught me, is the value of diversity. I didn't care that the soldier who saved my life was of color. It didn't bother me my brothers and sisters were different, they saved my life, and gave me their skittles.

People of color, particularly Black, Indigenous, and Japanese-Americans, joining the military in WWII led directly to post-WWII desegregation of the military, which lead into the Civil Rights Movement.

The military is way bigger than the post office and doesn't require a college degree.
