Has anyone read the Aftermath trilogy of Star Wars novels? Are they any good? I'm thinking of reading them after I've finished Master & Apprentice. Either that trilogy, or the Alphabet Squadron trilogy or the first group of the High Republic era novels. - ThreadSky

I read the first two and enjoyed them but never managed to get through the last one.
The High Republic books are very different to other Star Wars books I’ve read but they’re very good

Yeah the star was just a bit of a slog.

The villains in the High Republic are very different to the Sith or the Empire. It also feels a bit more fantastical than Empire era Star Wars

Yes, I read them. They were the first Star Wars novels I read and I enjoyed them. I've not read the Alphabet Squadron trilogy, so I can't recommend which might be best.

I don't remember them being particularly difficult to read, but also don't recall the format standing out. I did read them when they were first released though, so it's been a while.

I found the first Aftermath book to be a bit of a slog until close to the end. I liked the ending enough to give the other two books a chance, and am glad that I did; they were pretty good. The Interludes between chapters were sometimes really great!

That wouldn’t be a bad idea, in my opinion. But either way, I strongly recommend reading Aftermath before Alphabet (which I also really liked - mostly).

Yes, they are a lot of fun (i.e. my fav character Mister Bones)! They have fun structure (mini-standalone episodes between certain chapters). @chuckwendig.bsky.social is one of my favorite authors - he makes you turn pages and keep going!!!

They have interludes throughout each novel which are mini stories about other characters at the time, for example cobb vanths first appearance. I liked all three novels some cool lore and great characters. Alphabet squadron trilogy is great too!

Structure is definitely unique I was confused at first but at least u are aware of them now and audio might be fun but im biased to reading the physical copy so i wouldnt know lol

Read the first Aftermath and it gives lots of insight into the new cannon between eps 6 & 7, but I was not a fan of the writing style. Very jilted, short sentences. Actually made it hard to get through.

I hear ya. I keep telling myself I'm gonna re-read lots of Star Wars books, but new ones keep coming out and...well, you get it. I'd do Aftermath, Alphabet, then High Republic. I think once you start the HR books, you'll want to stay in that era for a good long while. However you decide...enjoy!

Aftermath does take a bit to get going, but finished the second book in the trilogy now and really enjoying it. New Republic is my favorite era of SW at this point.
