Sadly right. Just so unimaginative. And to have to keep making this case. But I suppose that's the issue with any progressivism really; the tragedy of which that we must continue to spend huge sums of energy making the case to not move backwards - rather than use it for actually moving forward.

I didn't get into the details. I ran a test on https://pagespeed.web.dev/and for the demo. It passed at around 80%. It did spit out a lot of code, though. Nothing new for most website builders.

ironically, I actually think this'll get better with more AI (which is to say: when it's faster / cheaper to do the AI pass at scale)

dreamweaver (and even microsoft word) could spit out dumb HTML, but claude could take that ugly input and write semantic code

That would be a great outcome (!) provided that there is the internal will to apply this technology in this way. Unfortunately the tech must also be flanked by creating and sustaining the internal will / championship to do this, which is not a technology-specific issue.

It's kind of interesting if you consider how few people actually care about accessibility. Those that do care, care very strongly (usually cause they need it themselves) but other than that, I don't think anyone even thinks about it. Somehow, we progressed in time but regressed in caring since 2015.

Exactly. No one sees stairs as a problem until they break a leg. I've noticed a push in general US conversations (especially from the right) about how the disabled should be able to work with what everyone else does. Trump admin is literally trying to make a list of disabled people. Worst timeline.
