This remains the one time in my life I'd heard someone arrange & perform the anthem in a way that intrigued me. It felt less as a song about a glory or valor that is specious & more a song about patience, grief, hope. Watching & waiting for a land to live up to its legend. Critique through love.

As you may have guessed, I’m not an Anthem guy. But the one time I heard it & was like, ‘this is good actually’ was when Anthony Hamilton did it at an All Star game. He turned it into (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay & communicated a nuanced USA through the song in a way I hadn’t heard since Hendrix
