Sorry but I can't agree. There are certainly substances for which that's true, but alcohol is not one of them. It definitely causes violence and reckless behavior to occur in situations where it would otherwise not occur.
Alcohol often escalates the abuse, but it's not a cause. Domestic abuse is about power and control. Even if someone who uses abuse tends to be triggered by alcohol, they are typically abusive in other ways even when sober.
It's an important distinction for a whole host of reasons, including how we respond to DV. Sending someone to rehab doesn't fix the problem because that's not where the problem originates. Someone who uses violence and gets sober is still likely to use violence.
