I was in my 40s (I am no longer) and I trained for months, slowly but surely. Ran maybe an 8:40 mile while training and felt great about it. Finished the half at an 8:05 pace and ran the last three miles at 7:30. It was amazing. Training slowly, carefully, and then getting a little lucky is amazing.
soooo fast!
i just had my 50th on thursday, and part of the reason i wanted to run was to feel strong and capable. and i do! even at a much slower pace than earlier you.
I work with an amazing human who qualified for the Olympics in the marathon. She could outrun me today and she is not anywhere near that pace any more. But I’m still so proud I trained, I tried, and I finished.
