Who ever seriously claimed that any of these were "the man"? The argument was that they were the best of a mediocre bunch.

In the same way Crowley was anointed as Sexton's successor just last year.

Exactly, and a lot of this was when Crowley was 19 or 20. They were the best of who was playing senior rugby still solid players, but someone better emerged in Crowley, and he got the hype he deserved. But nome of them had they type of hype some seem to be suggesting

I'm all for giving a promising young fella game time and I'm not saying he doesn't deserve a chance but the hyperbole and hysteria around him is ridiculous for a guy still learning the game
