Honestly, I care far more about them dating because of the fact that they didn't disclose that they were dating. If Ben had said "Hey, my girlfriend is running for Congress and I think she'd be good," I would have responded with, "May disagree, but good for you for supporting her."

Also I feel like part of why people find it annoying is it would have been easy to disclaim. “We the (campaign/media outlet) will not interact with the (media outlet/campaign) because there’s a conflict of interests over a personal matter”
