Results day in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 is weird. In 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 you get results posted direct to your house, and text results have been a thing since 2005.

Colleges/uni get access to results system so you don't need to submit them.

My cousin in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 had to get certificates then drive to hand them over to 6th form - waste of a day.

As for exam leave, surely there's a point where the kids need to become responsible for their own success/failure? You can't hand hold them forever.

We're available, but it's up to them to come for help.

And if there was no extra time we'd never do any wider curriculum/primary transition.

Plus it gets so chaotic as some are in exams, some aren't, then we're having to run pre-exam sessions and set cover for classes in the other year groups, having already run sessions in holidays and at weekends.

The balance needs to be restored. Less spoon feeding, more personal responsibility.

After all, we're not supposed to be just teaching them to pass exams. We're supposed to be preparing them for life after school. It is simply wrong that so many students now expect their teachers to do all the hard work - and take the blame if the student cba to study.

Re: gained time.

We're given ever increasing amounts of work to squeeze into the summer, but we get less gained time. When I was at school, we left at February half term: we've taught you everything, bye now, go home and revise - don't forget to turn up for exams and bring your own equipment!

Like the discussion on dialogue teaching. Couldn’t agree more. In terms of private school fees for year 11, if you’ve put your kid in the school for the previous four years, there isn’t much choice really is there but to pay for the whole term.
