I've actively traded this market for a living since 2005 using my core account of AAPL, which I bought in 1998 for $20. Yes, buying and holding excellent stocks, for holding an index fund you is a great idea for the long term. I learned from older and wiser to pay my son's college tuition.

Good advice Jack. People greatly underestimate the power of dollar cost averaging. I rode out 2008 and it was the best decision ever. This time I've adjusted to more heavily weight short term treasury funds. So far that's mitigated the losses. This one will be tougher than usual. Thanks.

Smart folks got out of stocks and into bonds 2 weeks ago. The decline was clear to be coming and I won't wait 2- 3 years to get back to where we were. Stay informed and pay attention and control your portfolio.
