The opening editorial (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2589871X24001049), written by myself and Justice Belinda Baker (ACT Supreme Court), frames the issues. We suggest interdisciplinarity and transparency are two major themes running through the papers.

Kristy Martire and colleagues' wonderful paper (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2589871X24000172) starts the issue. It's a large collaboration between research and practice in which they read several major forensic science papers with lessons about what 'error' means in that context.
