I think one painful lesson I’ve learned from the past few years is that there are people who simply don’t care about the harm something causes, so long as they’re having a good time, and will always see your warnings as you being a killjoy.

It was personal for me, failing to convince friends not to play a game made by a dev who doxed me and told me to kill myself.
But you’ve all seen other examples. Harry Potter. Starbucks. McDonald’s. Chick-fil-A. ChatGPT. Etc.
We ask people to do the bare minimum and they get mad.
Unless people are seriously, personally harmed, they just don’t care enough to divest. And it leads to everything getting worse for everyone, with all of us speaking out still being told to shut up.
I don’t know how to fix this. I’m just upset.
I think material conditions had a lot to do with this. Capitalism incentivise us to only look out for ourselves, and it tries to convince us that it's just """""human nature""""" to not give a damn about our wider communities like this. Complacency is a hell of a drug
I know that feeling all too well and it's infuriating. I don't know if this phenomenon fits under the umbrella of "Treatlerism," but it sure does feel like it.
"Don't care about the harm something does if it means I have fun, and the person pointing out the harm is worse than the harm itself."
I think it's mostly apathy and a lack of belief in collective action. I know for a while I was still buying Harry Potter Lego because "eh she probably doesn't get much of a cut from this anyway"
I think the biggest problem with American culture is
Americans REALLY hate being told what to do and add that with low intelligence, you got a doomed society
