Now I think of it... Enkanomiya aludes to Plato's Allegory of the Cave, and this is well understood because it is widespread in the west, but there's a variation of this myth in the east that accounts for how the people trapped in the cave have become slaves to the light-bearers/fire-bearers.
In the attempt to explain the wonders of the Sun to the people trapped in the caves/shadow world, the wise man who once saw the truth created Fire to show it and use it as an allegory. But the people become so terrified and in awe, they start worshipping the Fire instead and willingly submit to it.
