Amazingly, reaction times using screens while driving are worse than being drunk or high—no wonder 90 percent of drivers hate using touchscreens in cars.

The worst part is that the use of touchscreens is like 99% just cost-cutting. Everyone prefers buttons, and the engineers who've been required to slap iPads on everything *know* that everyone preferred buttons.

Meanwhile Ford removed physical buttons in the Maverick and put them on a touch screen. They even managed to make the infotainment display worse by making it bigger to accommodate the removed buttons!

Yea, By moving the screen closer to the user but not angling to toward the driver, it becomes harder to view. Not only that, because the screen is much wider with no angle, the controls on the far right are harder to see and access.

I got in the 2025 model thinking, I don’t remember it being this bad…then I got back in a <2024 model and it’s just right as I remember.

I’m not even considering a 2025 it’s such a stupid design. Thankfully there’s still several new 2024s out there on the lots to consider.

Man when I was still. Driving I hated how much screens were getting pushed. Like fuck man leave the buttons and knobs, I'm not supposed to be taking my eyes off the rode and screens have no way of being interacted with outside visually

One of the good things about buttons is that they're tactile, and the layouts will be designed to feel distinct, so you don't have to take your eyes off the bloody road to use them

Yeah, every time I've rented a car with a touchscreen, it's felt sketchier than just putting directions in my phone beforehand and leaving it be, which apparently is literally born out by the data. I really hope this goes away not just for the safety, but for the obvious cost savings as well.
