I just want to say how much I appreciate lawyer @pauldoroshenko.com who is warning people about what these extra checkpoints at Canadian borders from the Americans, are intended for: restricting American women’s access to healthcare. #Canadasky

I’m deeply concerned about it and this is clearly an exercise of normalizing control of movement generally with larger long term goals. It follows, in this era, that it is a threat to the right to exercise control over one’s own body when pregnant.
All of these people who said we were exaggerating. Now people are hauled to prisons in El Salvador.
We need to be clear eyed. Women, LGBTQ, anyone not a white Christian male — all are facing the loss of rights but we’re already seen abortion made illegal. It is a high priority for republicans.
The night Poilievre lost Sachi Kurl got on CBC and told everyone he was pro choice with a straight face, the media continue to repeat that lie. I wish there was a serious conversation in Canada about this.
I find her a threat to democracy. Angus Reid revealed who he was not too long ago. I'd think anyone who wanted to preserve their reputation would distance themselves by looking for a different job - something I would think she would have no trouble with. But she stays. Her choices are revealing.
Most Canadians believe that the full suite of women's health being available everywhere is so well entrenched that it would no more be taken away by a Conservative government than our CPP, EI or Canada Health Act. 1/3
You're likely to be called a whack-o if you raise the threat (the road to authoritarianism is lined by voices whispering to you not to over-react) but it'd not be wrong to ask every Conservative candidate what their stance on availability of abortion services is in every federal election. 2/3
This was my concern when I first heard of this. I can't believe that Margaret Atwood fans from the US would treat her warnings as a roadmap for white/male supremacy and a fascist society.
Thank you for pointing this out. I’m going to add that if you’ve taken a pregnancy test at home, live in a forced-birth state and are thinking about having an abortion, it’s probably not a good idea to talk with a dr about it on any records before traveling. (It’ll get you AND doc in trouble.)
My guess? It’s harder to track women in a foreign country whereas a woman travelling to a different state could be caught and prosecuted. I know I wouldn’t want to go to another state. It would have to be another country that has stricter privacy.
I don’t want to downplay what’s going on in the US because it’s messed up and it sucks. But I’d definitely rather get an abortion here if I needed one than cross the border to get one.
Fair enough. But my guess is people may feel differently than you on it. Canada is a safe place to get medical services. It’s not a third world country and it’s likely to be more affordable as well.
It’s unlikely to be more affordable after factoring in the additional cost of traveling to another country. And that’s even assuming one can easily get back in to the US afterwards.
Canadian women who are pregnant should think carefully about traveling to the United States. If you require medical care regarding your pregnancy, it may be difficult to obtain care in states where miscarriages may be considered as a form of abortion.
Not their jurisdiction but the federal govt should issue a health warning for Cdn. women who travel to the USA while pregnant about the dangers they face about being unable to get adequate health care while traveling in the USA.

They are breaking HIPPA by trying to track
I think getting an abortion in the USA at this point - even in legal places would be a massive risk.
How long until it’s illegal everywhere? How long until they retroactively punish women?
All things to consider.
